About CIFA Kenya

Community Initiative Facilitation and Assistance (CIFA) is a Kenyan international NGO that was formed in 1999 and registered in May 2000. This was after closure of FARM-Africa’s pastoralist development program (PDP), a twelve year project that worked with nomadic pastoralist. Its formation was based on building upon the achievements of FARM-Africa particularly in promoting opportunities for livelihoods improvement for the Nomadic and sedentary pastoralist.
In its efforts to support the pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia, CIFA formally secured regional status by registering as an NGO in Ethiopia in September 2005. To diversify its strategic niche and strengthen its advocacy role for the pastoralist, CIFA also registered as charity organization in the UK in the year 2007.

Central to every successful organization is its human resource capacity to put into practice the knowledge and skills it has gained over the years, consequently CIFA has incorporated opportunities for both in-house training and advancement of staffs’ field of expertise to build their capacity to handle various challenges in implementation hence the staff are highly qualified and committed. In addition the staffs are drawn from the various local communities inhabiting the target areas and thus have an added advantage of acquaintance to the local environment they are working in.

Mission

CIFA’s mission is to contribute towards the improvement in the quality of life of the communities in Marsabit County of northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia through support for the initiatives in livestock, environment, education, peace building and economic diversification.

Vision

To be effective and efficient service provider on livelihoods and disaster management in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia.

In its efforts to support the pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia, CIFA formally secured regional status by registering as an NGO in Ethiopia in September 2005. To diversify its strategic niche and strengthen its advocacy role for the pastoralist, CIFA also registered as charity organization in the UK in the year 2007.
CIFA operations in Kenya are managed with head office, based in Marsabit County, and one field office in Moyale.
